Is Anxiety a Mental Illness?

Yes. Anxiety is a mental illness, affecting up to 40 million adults in the USA. These epidemiology numbers make anxiety one of the most common mental disorders.

While occasional stress and danger-driven anxiety is quite normal, anxiety disorder is characterized by a constant and overwhelming sense of fear and worry. Having an anxiety disorder makes it a little more difficult to lead a fulfilling life, as it may affect both personal and professional relationships.

How is Anxiety Diagnosed?

Self -assessing and taking online anxiety disorder tests can give you a good idea about whether or not you need to a mental health specialist.  When you do go in to see one, a mental health specialist will diagnose anxiety disorder based on the diagnostic criteria in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5)

The mental health professional will want to know more about your medical history and the symptoms you have been experienced. You can expect the doctor to do a physical exam, and order different types of tests, including blood and urine tests, if they suspect an underlying medical condition may be the cause of your anxiety.

Are Your Services Covered by Insurance?

Unfortunately, our services are not covered by insurance at the moment. However, if you have an out-of-network provider coverage, we will be happy to provide you with all the required documentation (i.e., a detailed receipt with the diagnosis procedure codes) so that you can submit it to your insurance company for reimbursement. Also please note that we keep our prices as low as possible.

Do I Need/Have to Bring Any Records/Documents?

You may bring everything you believe may help the doctor better understand your situation.

What Are the Acceptable Payment Forms: Cash and CC Only?

For cash-only patients: suggest to use a gift card/prepaid Master, Visa, Amex and Discover cards online, available in local stores. Patients can always pay cash in person at our clinics.*We don’t accept PayPal for online payments.*

Will the Prescription Be Issued on the Day of My Appointment?

Most of the time medication will be prescribed on the day of the appointment, although, it is always up to a medical professional’s discretion as each case unique. There are many different variables involved, e.g., past medical history, certain medical conditions, active medications list, etc.

Do I Always Have to See the Doctor in-person?

No, current regulations allow for telemedicine visits. You can speak with a medical provider from your home or office via a secure video line, provided you are in a private location and have consented to the use of telemedicine.

Can My Medication Be Prescribed Electronically?

Yes, we can transmit an electronic prescription to the pharmacy of your choice.

How Much Does the Medication Cost?

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, anxiety manifests as several disorders, each with its own specific set of markers or signs and symptoms. It is not uncommon for a patient to be diagnosed with more than one anxiety disorder.

There are 5 major types of anxiety disorders, namely

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Panic Disorder
  • Social Anxiety/ Social Phobia
How is Anxiety Treated?

Psychotherapy and medication are the two main categories under which anxiety treatments fall. An effective treatment strategy for anxiety disorder involves combining psychotherapy and medication.

Mental health specialists typically prescribe anti-depressants and benzodiazepines to help with management of anxiety symptoms. Medication has been proven to be both safe and effective.

Psychotherapy, common referred to as just therapy involves talking to a mental health specialist about your anxiety. You will learn more about your anxiety disorder, and get valuable insights on non-pharmacological ways to manage it.

How Long Will My Anxiety Treatment Last?

Following the dosage instructions for prescribed anti-anxiety medication and being consistent with psychotherapy will help you achieve the best outcome within a short time. Some anti-anxiety medications are prescribed for short-term use, and others as part of a long-term anxiety treatment plan.
